The August Fandom of the Month Club brought me back to my very first month with this subscription, which was the last time they featured The Lord of the Rings!
Fandom of the Month Club is phenomenal when it comes to trying to ensure that their boxes reach a wide range of fans in as many fandoms as possible. One of their strong suits is the fact that they like to gauge how popular things are at a certain moment or things that haven’t been done in a while and if they should be revisited.
For example, Star Wars was the second box the company ever did, but was also recreated with all new pieces in late 2015, just in time for the release of The Force Awakens.
Lord of the Rings was done originally in May of 2015 – my first month with the box. I’m so thrilled the decided to revisit it and create a few all new pieces for this stunning box!
The card this month featured The Ring, and Fandom of the Month Club written in Elvish and English, side by side – perfect!
The magnet featured Frodo Baggins, while Elijah Wood played him – and the bag this month featured the Hobbit Door and the quote:
“There’s no knowing where you might be swept off to.”
Finally, the incredible jewelry included!
The first piece was a tie in to their original LotR box, a set of The Ring hoop earrings! In their original box, they had a bangle bracelet that looked identical – if you have both you’re set! (I could never part with my and I adore wearing them together). FotM has never done a set of hoop earrings before, and I am a massive fan of these – so pleased to see them trying something different!
In their one time Game of Thrones box, they attempted a pocket watch design that they have never done before and it was beautiful! This month, they continued that trend with their very first Compass design. Granted, I can’t imagine this day in age many of us using the compasses for actual direction, however the beautiful front design, reading:
“Not all those who wander are lost”
Is absolutely perfect and makes a gorgeous necklace just the same.
Finally, the last piece was an Elven Princess bracelet. If you checked out my Kal-Elle Fandom Monthly, June 2016 review, you probably noticed that the bracelets are identical. This piece was the sole item in this month’s box that was a manufacture basic, meaning it’s not custom! Both the compass and earrings are exclusive to the FotM box this month.
Each month they tend to include a minimum of 50% custom, 50% basic design – this helps them to keep costs down (as designing custom jewelry can get expensive!) as well as freeing up time to design the best pieces possible for the box.
All of the pieces are phenomenal quality and absolutely beautiful, and having 2/3 pieces being custom made and exclusive to this box is worth much more than the cost of the box itself.
If you’re interested in receiving a future Fandom of the Month Club box, you can grab one off their website! You never know which fandom will be next!
